This week was pretty boring because I was sick for most of it.
On Monday I went to the CDC in the morning, had lunch then pretty much took naps or watched movies for the afternoon/evening.
On Tuesday I went to the CDC and then, even though I was sick, I ventured out for the India vs. Nepal world cup qualifier soccer game. It ended up being a tie 0-0 but it was a lot of fun! The tickets were only 700 rupees ($7)! We had great seats behind the goal. Before the game started, the announcer asked everyone to rise for the Indian National Anthem. We looked around and couldn’t tell if we were supposed to stand since it was the opposing team but we did anyway. As soon as we stood up some guy behind us said “No, No, No. We no stand for them.” When the Nepali Anthem started he said, “Ok now you stand.” People had their faces/bodies painted like the Nepali flag and were really into the game. It was a lot of fun!
Since it was St. Patricks day, after dinner we ventured to Thamel to find an Irish Pub. There isn’t much happening for St. Patrick’s day in this country but we made our own fun. We found one pub that had some green balloons and paper shamrocks and we stayed there for a while then headed to dance club, “Club OMG (its party everyday)” for the rest of the night.
I stayed home from the CDC on Wednesday because I was still not feeling well.
Typically on Thursdays and Fridays I will be teaching English to little monks at a Buddhist monastery across town but they sometimes are praying all day so we can’t go. Luckily they were praying Thursday/Friday this week because I still wasn’t feeling well.
Over the weekend I just watched some movies, and ventured into Thamel for some shopping/eating/etc. We all went across town to a local place called Freak Point for lunch. It took forever to get our food because there is just one guy making everything. We were too tired to walk bac so we took rickshaws. The rickshaws only fit 2 people so we had three of them. We each told our drivers we would tip him if we won. My driver tried so hard. He was huffing and puffing, holding his back, and dripping sweat by the end. Every time he started to go faster he would say, “vroom vroom.” It was a lot of fun. At one point we were going downhill and he told us to hold on and then went way too fast. We must have been going at least 30 mph dodging cars, people, trucks, and motorcycles. In the end, nobody won because they took us to the wrong place. We knew where we were and got home fine.
